Main Purpose of Job

To teach a driver's education course and provide behind the wheel experience to deaf and hard of hearing high school students after school hours during the 2015-2016 school year.  The instructor is responsible for teaching students the rules of the road and the safe way to handle an automobile.

POSITION DUTIES

The primary task as a driving instructor is to demonstrate how to safely operate a motor vehicle and impart knowledge for defensive driving skills, state driving laws, accident causality avoidance, and basic traffic courtesy.  Successful candidate will be responsible to present lessons in the classroom which cover driving laws and driver courtesy as well as explain how a car operates, how to perform safety checks and what to do in case of an emergency.  The instructor will also be responsible to provide behind the wheel instruction and assess the students as they apply that knowledge behind the wheel of a vehicle.

The salary will be $20 per hour for behind the wheel instruction time and $30 per hour for classroom instruction time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration certification as a Driver Instructor.  Must be able to communicate well in American Sign Language and must have the capability to work with individuals with a wide range of skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
