Main Purpose of Job

The Facilities and Maintenance Technician will maintain facilities for the safe and efficient operation of Maryland Public Television. This position performs maintenance and troubleshooting for repairs on MPT's campus that include minor electrical and plumbing repairs, lock repairs and replacement, moving offices, painting and general carpentry work and is MPT's asbestos Manager.  This position also assists with other duties such as snow removal, set-ups for meetings and events, moving offices, repairing sets and other duties as assigned.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Perform daily rounds and building inspections and make note of areas needing repairs or improvements.
  • This position performs maintenance and troubleshooting for repairs on MPT's campus that include minor electrical and plumbing repairs, lock repairs and replacement, moving offices, painting and general carpentry work.
  • Complete minor renovations/remodeling projects and make minor and substantial improvements to the MPT Campus.  Work to prepare offices prior to staff occupation and help with staff relocation.
  • Works to complete a variety of work orders and to handle all types of facility maintenance requests.
  • Works with other facilities staff to do a variety of support jobs such as moving furniture, helps keep the campus clean of excess equipment/trash, helps with grounds-clean-up and snow removal.  Assists other facilities team members to address the work load.
  • Keeps track of inventory assigned, this includes maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Does the research and ordering of supplies, materials and equipment for projects and maintenance inventory stock in accordance with the Maryland State purchasing guidelines.
  • Acts as MPT's Asbestos Planner/Manager.  Attends the State's Asbestos classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:              Completion of trade or technical school curriculum.

Experience:             Minimum of 2 years’ related experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

This work requires climbing ladders, changing lights and ceiling tiles and must be able to lift 50lbs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasional evening , weekend and holiday hours.

In the winter months this position will be subject to cold, snow and icy conditions.  In the summer months it will be subject to heat and humidity.  It will also sometimes work in dirty and greasy areas.
