Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for supporting the agency’s data communication system by responding to service desk requests, interpreting users’ responses, diagnosing the situation and resolving issues. Acceptance testing of new application. Preparing the curriculum and providing technical training in both a one-on-one and group environments. Assist maintaining the agencies server infrastructure in both client-server and virtual environments. Assist in managing the agencies Unified Communication system. Assist and advise MIS staff in the area of Assistive Technology.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist with Network Administration:

  • Create and manage user accounts, user profiles, system policies, and login scripts. 
  • Prepare and configure hardware and software for efficient and effective network performance and data security.
  • Monitor the performance of network servers in both client server and VMWare environments. Make adjustments and recommendations whenever necessary to optimize performance.
  • Assure that service packs, hot fixes and security patches are kept up to date.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation.
  • Aid and advise in other network related matters not specified. Plan and participate in determining short and long term conversions and modifications of equipment and applications.

Assist in management and support of the agencies Unified Communication System.

Testing, training and technical documentation: 

  • Advise and train MIS staff in the area of Assistive Technology.
  • Assist in maintaining 508 compliancy on the agency Intranet and public website and make necessary recommendations to the webmaster to improve accessibility.
  • Test new releases of the agencies Case Management System AWARE
  • Review, test and make recommendations to Management regarding new network technologies that may improve productivity and/or lower agency costs (TCO).
  • Participate in the preparation and instruction of the agencies New Employee Network and Security training program “Getting Connected”. Develop and revise course material when necessary.
  • Develop end user documentation and training on Gmail.
  • Develop training material and instruct users on the use of network applications not mentioned above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer network, from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE:

Six months of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software for the required education.
  2. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the required education.  
  3. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the required education.  
  4. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for a high school education: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.
  5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the structure of local or wide area computer networks; knowledge of computer operating systems software, network communications software and applications software; knowledge of the principles and practices of data communications; knowledge of using and troubleshooting Assistive Technology software and hardware; skilled in developing the curriculum and training staff in both a one-on-one and group environments;  skill in adjusting local or wide area computer network components and in diagnosing and correcting network software and hardware problems; ability to communicate and establish and maintain effective working relationships with network users, vendor representatives and customer engineers.
