Jessup Correctional Institution - JCI

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide training and supervision to an Inmate workforce in the Tag Plant in the Jessup Correctional Institution - JCI to ensure proper safety and quality work is performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One (1) year of welding experience.

Notes: Possession of a certificate as a certified welder from an accredited welder's training program may be substituted for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Broader base of welding expertise (mig welding and stick welding is highly preferred) with proficient in the design, fabrication, joining, and/or repair of metals. Must be able to interpret welding instructions, specifications, technical manuals and drawings.

2. Operational knowledge of welding equipment and hand tools (metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines presses, power saws, grinders)

3. Mechanic experience.

4. Possession of a welder certification is a plus.

5. Experience in supervising employees; preferably in a production setting.

6. Must be computer literate, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Office Suite

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1- Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01. If selected for this position you must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status Must be at least 21 years of age A completed background investigation Oral interview Physical examination.

2- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
