Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for providing supervision for the adjudication of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims by ensuring effective and efficient management of a claims processing section.

POSITION DUTIES

Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all aspects of the work assigned to a section of Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists, VR Technical Specialists, and Office Secretaries; devises methods to achieve Federal and State performance standards of accuracy, delayed rates, production, processing time, and consultative examination expenditures; reviews and assesses disability claims at all levels of adjudication; participates in ongoing strategic planning for organization goals; implements Division policy, program directives, and administrative instructions; establishes and maintains effective working relations with Federal, State, and local organizations and agencies; monitors and assesses staff performance.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: 

Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.  A Master’s Degree and/or Course work in Management, Supervision of Administration is preferred.  

EXPERIENCE:  

A total of four years of professional work experience in providing disability determination services; two years must have been as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist at the full performance level in the adjudication or processing of Social Security Disability claims.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation policies, procedures, regulations, and directives in the administration of disability determination services; knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations governing the administration of vocational rehabilitation services; knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of complex and varied medical, psychological, and vocations reports; knowledge of research techniques in determining program effectiveness and in recommending courses of action for improved performance; ability to train and motivate staff; ability to organize and direct the activities of an administrative unit and to supervise the work of others; ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary services; ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and other professionals; ability to plan and organize assigned work to accomplish established goals in a timely manner.
