Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the Deputy to the Assistant State Superintendent of Educator Effectiveness and is responsible for providing administrative oversight of nonpublic school approval, teacher preparation program approval, and educator certification.

POSITION DUTIES

Directs and coordinates the completion of all mandated reports for the Division including but not limited to EIS data, nonpublic school approval monitoring data and the following Federal and State mandated reports; Manages the work of the Division as directed by the Assistant State Superintendent to provide improved efficiency and collaboration with regard to communication, processes, technical, assistance and innovative support to IHE’s LEAs, applicants and certificate holders and educators in non-public schools; improves collaboration and connectivity within the division; oversees regulatory processes for the  PSTEB initiatives; assures that all documents pertaining to the interpretation and implementation of laws, regulations, policies and procedures governing professional educator preparation programs and teacher certification are developed and revised as required;  provides administrative oversight for communicating current issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Education, Educational Supervision/Administration, Educational Leadership or a related area.  

EXPERIENCE: Six years of related experience in coordinating or administering education programs related to school administration, certification of teachers, higher education teacher preparation within universities, teacher training or experience as a principal with strong professional development experience is required. Administrative and/or supervisory experience is required.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of trends, regulations, policies, and issues affecting teacher education programs; knowledge of qualifying routes to teacher certification; skill in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks; skill in the use of standard office software; skill in the assessment of teacher education program components and the interpretation and application of statutory regulations, PSTEB processes, NCATE/CAEP protocols, and policies; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; ability to manage multiple tasks; ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with MSDE/LEA staff and academic faculty and staff within institutions of higher education.
