Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Director for the Primary Cancer and Community Health Bureau.  This position manages the Health Promotion and Protection Administration's Primary Cancer and Community Health Bureau, providing clinical and administrative/operational leadership for the Office of Cancer Prevention and Control, the Office of Tobacco Prevention and Control, the Office of Chronic Disease Control, the Office of Oral Health, and the Office of Primary Care Access.  Responsibilities of this position consist of managing through subordinate Office Directors, a total budget of approximately $83 million and a staff of 107 residing in permanent State positions and contractual employment.  In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for developing strategic plans and direction for health services in the area of cancer and chronic disease.  This will include implementing new health services, reviewing trends, and modifying existing services when warranted.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires an MD degree from an accredited college or university and two years of medical practice, preferably at a supervisory or administrative level. Candidate must also possess five years of experience related to cancer and/or chronic disease prevention, in particular: oral health, cancer prevention, obesity prevention, diabetes prevention, stroke prevention, and cardiovascular disease prevention, and policy, systems, and environmental change.  The successful applicant must have at least three years of management experience including responsibility for developing budgets, tracking expenditures, and staff recruitment.

In addition, the successful applicant should have experience with forming and maintaining diverse partnerships.  The successful applicant should have demonstrated public health experience at either the federal, state, or local level.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed and currently registered with the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law.  A copy of the current registration must be attached to the application.
