Main Purpose of Job

The Computer Information Services Specialist is the assistant to the Chief of Information Technology (Program Manager II) for the agency. This person will be responsible for assisting the Chief in formulating the agency's information technology plan. This will involve, but is not limited to assisting agency staff with technology issues relating to hardware and software. This position will also help to identify enhancements in agency processes and with the assistance of the Chief of Information Technology formulate a plan to implement these enhancements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications.

Notes: 1. Additional experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an equivalent program, may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience working with Microsoft SharePoint
  • Four (4) years of experience writing queries using Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Four (4) years of experience developing reports using Business Objects Crystal Reports software

SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
