Main Purpose of Job

The Respiratory Care Nurse responsibilities include but are not limited to providing quality resident/patient care, medication management, nursing assessments, wound care, and respiratory care to ventilator dependent individuals as specified on the patient/resident care plans and assignment sheets according the policy and procedures of Western Maryland Hospital Center. Also responsible for renewals and ensuring all follow through notification/transcription is completed. Acts as designated team leader, team center nurse, and lead/coach peers or non-professional staff as necessary. Reports changes in condition to the shift leader, nurse practitioner, and/or physician as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.

Experience: One year of medical surgical nursing experience.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Surgeon classifications or Surgeon specialty codes in the surgical nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification are required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants may be given a medical examination and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the work required of the position prior to appointment.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
