Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to evaluate the compliance of nursing assistant programs to determine if required standards are being met; and, in order to protect the public, take the appropriate action when standards are not being met. The incumbent will also provide technical direction on certification and roles of the nursing and medication assistants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

NOTES:

1.  A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2.  A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office Software including Access and Excel, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and have experience in technical and/or formal writing.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
