Main Purpose of Job

The main goal of the Dialysis Services Technician, Chief position is to be responsible for the overall operation, condition, maintenance, and repair of all water treatment and medical equipment, as well as mechanical/electrical systems so as to ensure safety of the patients as well as the staff operating the equipment throughout the dialysis unit.  The incumbent will also have knowledge and proficiency in the initiation and shut down of all equipment in the dialysis unit.  he Dialysis Services Technician, Chief should also possess a comprehensive knowledge of the function and safe operation of back-up water treatment equipment and related mechanical and electrical systems, directing the inventory control and regulatory compliance functions and ensures suitable measures are taken to maintain the facility appropriately.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a kidney dialysis services technician including the preparation, operation, and maintenance of kidney dialysis equipment.

Note: Applicants may substitute possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the biological or physical sciences for one (1) year of the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this class must possess a current certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant-Dialysis Technician from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 OR successfully complete a Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant-Dialysis Technician training program and receive certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant-Dialysis Technician from the Board of Nursing within ninety (90) days from date of hire.  Please be sure to submit a copy of your current license with your application. 

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants may be given a medical examination prior to their appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drug.

3. Persons appointed to positions in this classification without certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant- Dialysis Technician must successfully complete a Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant-Dialysis Technician training program and receive certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant-Dialysis Technician within ninety (90) days from date of hire prior to performing delegated nursing tasks.  An appointee failing to successfully complete this requirement will not be retained in the position.
