Introduction
The Office of General Services (OGS) is currently accepting applications from candidates for two (2) Building Security Officer II positions.
This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
In addition to ensuring a safe and secure environment for state employees and the general public, responsibilities entail identification and control of personnel entering and exiting the building; examination of packages; writing and submitting reports; performance of interior patrols; assisting in building evacuations; enforcing specified agency regulations; assisting in emergency situations as necessary; and other related duties as assigned.
Employees in this classification are required to work weekends and holidays. Employees may be required to travel to various DLLR locations to perform said duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Ability to read and write.
Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in master-at-arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

Successful candidates will be placed on the certified list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified.
The certified list will be used by DLLR for a period of one year.
BENEFITS
As a contractual position, the selected candidate will be paid only for hours worked. This position has no state-paid benefits (i.e. sick leave, annual leave, personal leave, holidays, etc.). The person filling this position may purchase healthcare insurance at the state’s group rate.
FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS
Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved. Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
