Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Building Security Officer Trainee is the trainee level of work responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on State grounds. The main purpose of this position is to provide a safe and secure environment for the Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC) employees, patients, visitors, and vendors and the prevention of elopements. This is an entry level position to full performance level and does not have any supervisory responsibilities or duties. This position will be under the supervision of a higher level Security Officer, Police Officer, RN supervisor or their designee and/or Police Chief.  Security Officers that are assigned to work on the patient's units will comply with SGHC policies and procedures as required.  Security Officers are required to complete all administrative assignments and reports prior to the end of their shift, to include but not limited to incident reports, witness statements etc.  The Security Officer will cooperate with all departments and employees participating in any and all patient abuse allegations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Ability to read and write.

Experience:  None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.
