Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS A MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENT. THE INCUMBENT WILL WORK AT THE PLEASURE OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.
This position functions as the Assistant Director of Design for the Division of Capital Construction and Facilities Maintenance. Some of the responsibilities of this position include reporting to the Director in the management of design; assisting the director in the planning, programming and budgeting for user agencies; supervising, organizing, directing and controlling the project managers and project teams consisting of registered professional engineers and architects in design, scheduling, cost control and progress of the capital projects program to make it economical and efficient; and recommends to the Director sound engineering policies and procedures for the overall capital improvement program relating to State correctional facilities and other Departmental projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) in Architecture from an accredited college or university. In order to meet this educational requirement an unofficial copy of your transcript must accompany your application.
Experience: Ten (10) years of experience as an Architect in the design and construction of buildings to include: Seven (7) years of experience with writing specifications and coordinating project managers, and five (5) years of experience managing a staff of architects, engineers, and/or project managers.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualification is preferred, not required:
· Candidate should be able to communicate well orally and in writing, and should be familiar with State of Maryland building codes and regulations.
· Advanced credentials in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), experience as an architect working in correctional facilities, and membership in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) are desired.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Applicants must be currently registered as an Architect in Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland Board of Architects, in the appropriate option for which application is made. Evidence of registration must be presented with the application.
