Main Purpose of Job
The position will provide a diverse clerical support and completion of financial transactions for various health centers of the Howard County Department. The employee will do all duties in English and Spanish, and Assists with interpretation as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language.
Notes:
1. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.
2. Additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Linguist or Language Capability classifications or Linguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must be fluent in spanish and english. The candidate must be able to translate and interpret documentation in spanish and english.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
