Main Purpose of Job

The Deputy Chief will be responsible for scheduling, assigning, and supervising all activities of drug inspectors in order to carry out the Division's mission critical activities to protect the citizens of Maryland. Additional mission critical activities may include joint Federal-State investigations with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, special drug diversion investigations, drug inventory reviews and special assignment from the professional licensing boards (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, Board of Physician's, etc.). This position also supports the chief by performing special assignments and investigations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Pharmacist or two years of experience dispensing and compounding prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care at a State facility.

Note:  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Pharmacist classification or Pharmacist specialty codes in the Pharmacist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate should have at least four years of experience being involved with inspection and investigating practitioners, researchers and establishments related to prescribing, dispensing, administering, storing, and manufacturing controlled dangerous substances to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and procedures; joint investigations with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, DHMH Health Occupation Boards and Law Enforcement Agencies; issuance and compliance of CDS registration and licensing. The successful candidate should also have four years of supervisory and/or managerial experience acquired in health, human services, or medical field.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. **Please be sure to submit a copy of your current licensure to be attached with your application.**

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2.  Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
