Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Nutrition Program Trainee is the non-licensed entry level of work providing nutrition services to clients in a public health or community setting. Employees receive close supervision from a higher-level nutritionist; health administrator or other administrator. The incumbent will be responsible for learning to research, plan and implement the nutrition and breastfeeding education plans according to state policy and procedure and learn to present these plans to participants through group and individual contacts. The employee will also learn to provide specialized nutrition care to participants who are at a nutrition risk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Community Nutrition, Dietetics, Foods and Human Nutrition, Food Systems Management or Nutrition Education.

Experience:  None.

NOTE

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist speciality codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
