Springfield Hospital Center, 6655 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the daily organization and management of the Springfield Hospital Center's Grounds Department.  Specifically, the position will: provide direct supervision to assigned maintenance employees in the Grounds Department; conduct on-going evaluation of the work performance of assigned employees, completing counseling, human resource actions and appraisals; assure proper maintenance of all equipment; ensure patient/staff environment is met by maintaining the support services to all areas of the hospital; order materials for timely completion of all job tasks and coordinate contractors' work; gather data for the writing of contract specifications; prepare cost estimates; and, layout and direct shop projects as well as work with and/or monitor assigned projects that may be done by outside vendors/contractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Three (3) years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including two (2) years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
