Maryland State Department of Education is recruitng for an Management Associate; located in the Division of Library Development and Services. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one (1) year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides support to the coordinator of the Maryland Accessible Textbook Program (MAT) at the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH); which is designated as an Instructional Resource Center to coordinate statewide availability of textbooks and supplementary materials in electronic format to eligible blind or disabled students enrolled in institutions of higher education and institutions of postsecondary education in Maryland. Responsible for the daily operations of the MAT, which includes receiving student requests, verification of student elbibility, requesting electronic files for the publisher, and sending the files to the student or the student's disability services office. In addition, the position is responsible for the maintenance of all appropriate records for each request and for clerical support for the Educational Coordinator I.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Five or more years of experience preparing and maintaining statistical and numerical data for Departmental reports and student records

Knowledge of State and Federal regulations for compliance with student records, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Proficient in Microsoft Office  (Word, Excel Power Point and Outlook)

Communicating with diverse populations; especially individuals with disabilities 

Experience preparing monthly reports accurately 

Experience maintaining confidential records, schedules, and office supplies

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Strong attention to detail Preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
