LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located in the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Division of the MD Department of General Services at, 29 St. Johns Street, Annapolis, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide installation and maintenance of various types of electronic equipment and to assure optimum performance of equipment throughout the Annapolis Facility. This position directly supports the Governor's and Lt. Governor's audio requirements for press conferences, announcements, ground-breakings, Board of Public Works, and meetings.

This position is considered Emergency Essential which means the employee is required to report or remain at the work site to continue agency operations during emergency situations. 

POSITION DUTIES

This is the advanced level of technical electronic work in the repair, maintenance and installation of standard and special purpose electronic equipment. An employee in this class works independently on assigned projects and is responsible for work in assigned areas on a 24 hour basis. Employees in this class assemble, install, modify, and relocate toll recorders, key box, traffic signal, recording equipment and other related electronic equipment.

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

- Installation and Maintenance of CCTV systems, cameras, monitors, video sequencer, video switchers, transmitters, receivers, fiber optic and coaxial video network. 

- Install and maintain card access systems, overhead door operators, induction loops, reversing contactors, photoelectric safety beams, card readers, handicapped door access systems, keypad access systems, personalized computer and access control interface hardware.

- Expansion and maintenance of CPU; peripheral hardware, sensors, monitors, printers, coaxial and fiber optic transmission networks throughout the complex. 

- Install and maintain audio systems throughout facility which may include repairs during live broadcasts.

- Maintain fire detection and fire suppression systems throughout the facility.

- Will be required to shovel snow in the event of a snow storm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate. 

2. Successful completion of a formal course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair.

Experience: Three years of experience in electronic equipment, radio, or television repair.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work or formal schooling in electronics, on a year for year basis, for up to two years of required high school education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes in the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

2. Persons appointed to this position may, in some departments, be subject to call twenty-four hours a day in emergencies.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

Eligible list may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

You MUST possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – Verification will be completed by the appointing authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination.  Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.  You must include on your application the time spent on such activity.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
