Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service, is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Contractual Natural Resources Technician to assist the State Wildlife Action Plan Coordinator in completing the revision of Maryland's State Wildlife Action Plan. The selected candidate will be responsible for writing, coordinating, and developing parts of the State Wildlife Action Plan. Responsibilities will include drafting sections of the State Wildlife Action Plan, organizing and formatting data, providing outreach about the plan to conservation partners and the public, and assisting the State Wildlife Action Plan Coordinator with other related duties as assigned. The incumbent must have strong organizational/ communication skills and should have experience with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Candidate must be able to work independently and with others. 

Note: This position has limited hours and will not be extended.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional education beyond sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university in a natural resources related field of study can be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the development/writing of conservation plans and knowledge of Maryland’s wildlife species is preferred but not required.  

Experience using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator and using ArcGIS is preferred but not required.
