Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for eight (8) Seasonal Contractual Natural Resources Technician positions located at Savage River State Forest near Grantsville, Maryland or Potomac-Garrett State Forests near Oakland, Maryland. The incumbents will collect forest inventory data and perform other technical forestry activities. The selected candidates should be proficiently skilled with a multitude of technical forestry equipment including GPS, compass, clinometers, range finders, 10 and 20 BAF prisms, increment corers, as well as be able to accurately read and interpret topographic maps.
Note: The incumbents will work in inclement weather and traverse rugged terrain.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university, including extensive dendrology or tree identification, herbaceous plant identification.
Experience: None
Notes:
Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture or natural resource management may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
