Main Purpose of Job

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board's mission is to compensate innocent victims of crime for uncompensated losses resulting from crime in the State of Maryland. The agency is created by statute and must abide by rules and regulations established in law. The victim services coordinator acts as the link to services for those victims as well as for victims who may not qualify for compensation, but still need additional services. At the direction of the Executive Director, the Victim Services Coordinator supervises all the victim advocacy related functions of the agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Works with the Executive Director to establish goals and create plans for responding to victims and claimants served by the agency. Duties include helping the agency better service crime victims, reaching out to victim advocates to educate them about CICB services and making sure that the agency is victim friendly.

Maintains a log of activities for each claimant. Responsible for keeping the Executive Director and other agency staff members up to date on victim issues.

Plan and participate in staff training. Train the CICB staff on victim sensitivity. Organize special training opportunities for the agency to include the following: facilitate trainings, line up presenters, prepare the agenda and locate the venue. Recruits, trains and supervises interns-Recruitment of college interns to assist with various victim services for the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB). Train the interns on the agency's database, victim services and research projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of direct victim services experience to include;  case management and criminal justice advocacy.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Experience providing crisis intervention and grief support

2.    Bilingual

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
