THIS IS A POSITION-SPECIFIC RECRUITMENT FOR THE BALTIMORE CITY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES.  THIS POSITION MAY REQUIRE WORKING HOURS FROM  2:30 P.M. -11:00 P.M. DURING THE WEEKDAY AND WEEKEND.

Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this Unit Manager's position is to provide administrative support for the Child Protected Services (CPS)-Extended Hours program by developing as necessary and executing plans which ensure the implementation of the goals and objectives set for the assigned program and the overall mission of the agency.

The position's core responsibility is to ensure the safety, permanency and well being of each vulnerable child in each caseload. The incumbent will manage daily operations of the Extended Hour (After Hour) Services within the Safety Program, provide supervision and oversight of 2-4 supervisors, ensure that policies and procedures of Screening and Safety Program are adhered to by staff, ensure appropriate shift coverage, train permanent and support staff on policies and procedures of Extended Hours, ensure referrals are processed correctly and forwarded to day shift staff timely and acts as an agency liason with community partners.

This responsibility is assured through the provision of the oversight of the activities of professional social workers at the supervisory level, lower level social work staff, Family Services Caseworkers, clerical and other support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university approved by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: Seven (7) years of professional experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency or institution, four (4) years of which must have been in an administrative, supervisory or consultative capacity.

Notes:

1.) These requirements are established by the Social Service Administration by authority provided in Human Services §4-204 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and the Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

2.) Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates filling positions in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Social Work Examiners.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties are required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
