Main Purpose of Job

This position will supervise and participate in all exterior maintenance and repairs to the facilities buildings and grounds.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Chief III will function in a Lead capacity that supervise, assess, implement, and participate in the work of various trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical). The incumbent will also provide year-round ground maintenance at the facility; including lawn mowing, trimming, and snow removal.  The Maintenance Chief III is responsible for ordering supplies and materials for maintenance to facility buildings and grounds. The incumbent will be expected to generate and maintain daily inventory of equipment and vehicles  that are used to perform work at the facility. Additional job responsibilities include monthly inspections to identify any necessary repairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including three years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess at least one year of experience using a electronic financial management system and/or procurement system to order, track, and manage supplies are highly desired.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
