Introduction
This is a full-time position at the Salisbury Animal Health Laboratory. Employee may be required to work outside usual daytime hours, and be available for on-call assignments. Some weekend and evening duty may be required in the event of a disease outbreak or other assigned Agency activity. May involve occasional overnight travel in and out of State. This is a Continuity of Operations essential employee.
Worker will be paid hourly for actual hours worked (no paid leave or paid holidays.)

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Assists veterinarians with gross necropsy, conducts cleanup and disinfection of the necropsy suite after completion of every necropsy session so that it is clean, sanitary, and orderly at all times, and stocks supplies used during necropsy.
Performs administrative duties for sample accessioning, test recording and reporting using the Laboratory Information System.
Performs general laboratory technician duties not specifically related to necropsy, such as: preparing media for microbiology plates and virus collection tubes; prepares, packs and ships samples according to Federal standards; strictly follows infection control precautions and follows biosecurity and biosafety practices; and properly uses personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
General Option Education: Completion of 60 credits from an accredited college or university including three courses in chemistry or biology.
Experience: Two years of experience as a laboratory assistant or technician.
Notes:
1. Additional experience in a laboratory applying chemical or biological techniques may be substituted for the required education at a rate of one year of experience for each 30 credits of the required college education.
2. Candidates may substitute an Associate’s or higher degree in chemistry or biology for the education or experience requirements.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Laboratory or Histopathology classifications or Medical Laboratory specialty codes in the field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
