Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor is the full performance level of licensed work, counseling clients with substance use disorders by using assessment, evaluation, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation.  The main purpose of this position which is a Dual Diagnosis Addiction Specialist is to identify, assess, treat, refer, and educate clients with substance use disorders including co-occurring mental health disorders.  The incumbent will provide mental health and substance abuse treatment to dual diagnosis patients (substance abuse and mental illness).  Treatment is provided to help these patients remain stable while they learn to develop and maintain a drug-free lifestyle.  The treatment modalities utilized are individual counseling, co-facilitated groups and family counseling.  This is a full-time contractual position which will require working 2 or 3 evenings per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
