Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide nutritional care to individuals with developmental disabilities including dual diagnosis who reside at the Potomac Center. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, participates in the planning, developing, and implementing of the individual's care plan. Provides information to the team based on the assessment of the individual's nutritional status, feeding skills, ability to follow a diet, plan, and prepare his/her own meals and educates the individual regarding the relationship between diet and disease. Documents the individual's progress in the medical record, reviews, and annual assessments and as the need arises during the course of the year. Incumbent will coordinate clinical and food service activities to ensure that prescribed diets, requirements, and preferences are carried out. Incumbent will contribute to the identification and resolution of problems, participate in the daily planning, operations, supervision, and direction of staff as related to dietary needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Three years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services, one year of which must involve experience in a residential or hospital setting.

Notes: 

1. A Master’s degree in the field of dietetics, nutrition, institutional administration, or other related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classifications or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.   

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice.  A copy of the license must accompany the application.

2. Candidates must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) prior to completion of the probationary period and must maintain a current registration during their time of employment. Applicants who are currently registered should submit proof of CDR registration with application.
