Introduction

This position is limited to permanent and contractual employees working with the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) only.

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.  The resulting eligible list will be used to fill positions in DPSCS Correctional facilities throughout the State of Maryland.  Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for at least one year.

Main Purpose of Job

Properly uses equipment and abides by all office policies and procedures, and agency regulations and policies.  Responds to inquiries, makes determinations and resolves problems by reviewing, verifying, interpreting and editing information relative to inaccuracies and discrepancies in the criminal history record information database in accordance with applicable procedures, policies, regulations and laws.  Assembles and verifies data and compiles detailed documentation to conduct audits of criminal, non-criminal and private provider agencies throughout the State of Maryland and is able to quantify and verbalize research results and recommendations such that logical, legal decisions can be made concerning the management of criminal history.  Interface with other agency criminal history information systems to ensure that each record contains all known arrest disposition and custody supervision data.  Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

POSITION DUTIES

Performs research and analysis of fingerprint card submissions from criminal, non-criminal and private provider agencies and to conduct audits of those same agencies.  This includes but is not limited to using various databases and research tools available to conduct such research; to accomplish assigned tasks on time, accurately and completely; and to record the results of that research on various spreadsheets; and to write clear and concise audit reports.

Conducts audits of criminal, non-criminal, and private provider agencies who submit fingerprint cards to CJIS, either independently or as a member of an audit team.  Conducts pre-audit research to gather pertinent data; prepares pre-audit correspondence for signature by the Assistant Director; conducts audits; prepares necessary spreadsheets to support findings and recommendations; prepares audit report for Assistant Director or Director signature.

Performs other tasks, including statistical research and analysis, as directed by senior management for the purpose of developing more efficient reporting and auditing processes and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
