Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Mechanic is the intermediate level of work in the trades of maintenance operation.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs for all building systems and assists with the work of the various building trades to maintain the Noyes Children's Center. The incumbent will provide year round grounds maintenance at the facility including lawn mowing and trimming; and snow/ice removal. The Maintenance Mechanic will participate in the relocation of furniture and other equipment necessary to provide the proper environment for the occupants. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for generating and maintaining detailed records of equipment, tools, vehicles and work performed daily at the facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Three years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades provided that at least two years of such experience shall have been primarily with the trades of electricity, plumbing, steamfittings, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the performance of duties in the following fields of maintenance is highly desired: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Painting, Carpentry and grounds maintenance

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
