Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as a Computer Criminal Investigator for the DPSCS CCHU. The incumbent is responsible for completing the computer criminal checks for prospective agency employees as well as all current DPSCS employees as mandated by the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). These criminal checks are reviewed by the Unit Director in order to determine an applicant's suitability for employment or continued employment with the agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Completes the comprehensive computer criminal investigations for all mandated applicants.

Completes the comprehensive computer criminal database checks for all DPSCS employees.

Assists the unit in the processing applicants through the Web ID Fingerprint-Based Identification System.

Responds to inquiries from other law enforcement agencies/entities with regard to background investigations which have been completed and are on file.

Possible travel in order to participate in Web ID and/or Tenprint Fingerprint process.

Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems.

Notes: 1. Experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience operating secure data bases, extracting and evaluating data and creating reports.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
