LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located in the Records Management section of the MD Department of General Services, in Jessup, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support and ensure the procedures governing the daily receipt and transfer of State agency's records by the centralized Records Repository.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Receive and verify the transfer of State agency's records.
  • Identify and remove boxes approved for destruction.  
  • Stack boxes on pallets and shrink wrap for transport by the recycling Contractor.  
  • Organize agency's individual records/cases by the State Records location coordinates.   
  • Conduct inventory of open spaces bi-annually at the State Records Center.
  • Provide routine maintenance for the State Records Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years experience in general services functions, office administration activities or in the receiving, storing, issuance, purchase or requisition of equipment, materials, and parts and supplies.

Note:

1. Additional experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience organizing, filing and maintaining boxes of records in a warehouse environment is required.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants that are able to lift 50 pounds or more and stand for extended periods of time.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED. The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

You MUST possess the minimum and selective qualifications.  Verification will be completed by the appointing authority. If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process. Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination. Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week. You must include on your application the time spent on such activity. You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
