Introduction

THIS IS A STATEWIDE RECRUITMENT FOR THE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SENIOR CLASSIFICATION.  There are currently several other vacancies at various locations and it is anticipated that there will also be additional vacancies in other parts of the State.  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WHEN APPLYING FOR THIS RECRUITMENT, YOU CHECK ALL COUNTIES IN WHICH YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK.

Baltimore County

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the job is to maintain, repair and sustain Maryland State Police property.  This includes but is not limited to the grounds; exterior structures; buildings and related fixtures; and utilities utilizing a variety of trade practices such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and H.V.A.C.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades of which three years shall have been in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination, and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill this vacancy.  This list will be valid for one year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
