Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide home visits to families eligible for the Healthy Families Dorchester Program. The incumbent will make visits focusing on parenting and child development activities and compliance with age-appropriate medical visits. This position also requires maintaining liaison and cooperative relationships with a variety of public and private agencies to negotiate further provision of services. The selected applicant must be able to relate to diverse populations, believe in non-physical discipline methods, and be comfortable providing visits in less-than ideal home environments.  Experience working with families with small children is preferred. This is a full-time contractual position which may require adjusting hours to accommodate families needing visits later in the day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.

NOTE:

1.  Experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
