Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for five (5) Seasonal Ranger Positions at Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area located in Cecil County, Maryland. Daily tasks include but are not limited to the following: general park and facility monitoring, providing information to visitors, advising the general public of park rules and regulations, opening/closing of areas and gates, coordinating and assisting with special events, monitoring recreational hunting and fishing activities, picking up litter and maintaining grounds, vehicle and equipment upkeep and record keeping, report writing, cleaning and maintaining restrooms and other public buildings, daily computer usage, money handling and verification of receipts, use of communication radios, maintaining facilities and trails, and other duties as assigned. Selected candidates must be able to lift 50lbs., hike trails of varying difficulty, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. The shift hours for this position vary; examples of shift hours include 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Weekly hours and contract period are flexible and subject to change. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Knowledge of basic computer operation skills. 

Notes: 

Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.   

Applicants must adhere to all State and Federal laws, safety regulations, and must understand and adhere to all park policies.  

Applicant must present a neat and clean appearance and wear issued uniform correctly.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education or experience in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, or a natural resources related field is preferred but not required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
