Introduction

The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging and challenging environment to insure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners.  As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.

Main Purpose of Job

Substitute teacher aides are responsible for the implementation of student instructional programs and daily schedules as directed by the teacher. Accommodate and follow each behavior support plan for individual students, including daily self-care, assist with the arrival and dismissal of students, and supervise students during off campus instruction. Provide a safe environment for students at all times. Candidates must maintain strict confidentiality of students and school personnel information, exceptional organizational skills, effective classroom management, strong written communication, and experience working with a diverse student population, including underserved students. Comply with and support MSD's regulations and policies. Substitute teacher aides need to be available on an on-call basis. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED required. Fluency in ASL and written English required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568.)
