This office has locations in Leonardtown and Lexington Park which are approximately 85 miles from Baltimore and Richmond, and 65 miles from Washington, DC.

Main Purpose of Job

To assist families in obtaining and retaining jobs which will allow them to become independent of cash assistance through personal and family responsibility and community involvement. To work at the entry level performance in the field of occupational placement and/or job development. To learn to make intensive assessments of Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) customers to facilitate the removal of barriers or non-compliance issues with employment requirements; to learn to link customers to community services while developing and maintaining relationships, teaching and evaluating abilities and interactions.

POSITION DUTIES

Interview and assess customers to determine occupation qualifications and skills; analyze prior work experience, degree of job readiness, education and vocational training with particular emphasis on TCA customers on assistance more than 12 months.  If assessment indicates customer should be considered for disability, assist customer in obtaining disability determination and benefits. 

Contract employers to determine results of referrals and continue follow-up with employers and customers as necessary.  Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and provide pre and post employment support services to the newly employed. 

Assist customers in meeting job commitments by removing barriers that result in non-compliance such as transportation for daycare, arrangements for medical certifications, working through alternative methods for transportation, etc.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

Candidates must be willing to work in St. Mary's County.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
