Work that Matters. The Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) is a national leader in financing affordable housing and community development lending.  The Office of Community Outreach is responsible for promoting the Department of Housing and Community Development (“DHCD”) housing programs and initiatives, including the Department's foreclosure prevention initiatives for low and moderate-income Maryland residents. Community Outreach efforts include speaking engagements, trainings, presentations, exhibitor opportunities, and distribution of the department's marketing collateral. The unit works with both internal and external partners to advance homeownership opportunities within Maryland and sustain homeownership by broadening the reach and increasing awareness of the DHCD’s portfolio of products and services, to enhance the images of both the unit and the department through educational efforts, community outreach and awareness building.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Crownsville, Maryland

In the future, DHCD will be relocating from Crownsville, Anne Arundel County, to the New Carrollton transit stop location in Prince George’s County.

POSITION DUTIES

Under the direction of the Director of Community Outreach, this position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of event planning and implementation of events hosted by the Office of Community Outreach, to promote the Department's mission and portfolio of programs and services; including event recruitment, training, scheduling, special event planning, coordination, organization and promotion, public relations development through community education, involvement and support, and other administrative duties of outreach activities. The event coordination component will include large-scale events; community outreach meetings and activities; including plan and execution of events across all lines of business. The promotion component will include distribution and mailing of marketing materials to partners/stakeholders on event-related matters; including maintaining inventory levels.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related courses.

Experience: Two years’ experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

Note: Applicants may substitute additional experience as described above for the required college education on a year-for year basis.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with event planning
  2. Experience in the housing/real estate industry
  3. Experience with procurement/purchasing agreements
  4. Ability to speak effectively/oral and written presentation skills.

In the future, plans exist to move DHCD headquarters to Prince George’s County.
