Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the Contractual Community Health Outreach Worker I which is a Peer Recovery Support Specialist is the entry level of work providing health and disease prevention information to medically underserved populations in the community and assisting them in adopting healthy behaviors through State Care Coordination and Access to Recovery (ATR) services with recovery support responsibilities and the reintegration of the patients into long term recovery at multiple sites throughout the community. Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Candidates with firsthand experience as a recipient of services in Maryland's behavioral health system are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time contractual position which may require working one or two evenings per week as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None.
NOTE:
1. Experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. Candidates with firsthand experience as a recipient of services in Maryland's behavioral health system are encouraged to apply.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
