Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Office Clerk I is the intermediate level of work performing clerical duties.  The purpose of this position which is an After School Program Assistant will assist in the coordination and implementation of an after school program for second through eighth grade students.  This is a part-time (up to 15 hours per week) contractual position with Garrett County Health Department in the Health Education and Outreach division at the Oakland and Accident After School Program.  The incumbent will assist in the day to day details associated with running and staffing the After School program.  The employee will assist with implementation of daily program including scheduling and supervision activities and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, assist in planning the daily activities for the program and work within budget to provide daily snacks and activities.  This position will most often work 3-6:30 pm, Monday-Friday with more hours during the summer program and some day shift hours for training or meetings.  Previous experience working with youth is preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience:  Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

NOTES:

1.  Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3.  Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience working with youth is preferred.
