Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Medical Care Program Associate I is the intermediate level of work in a Medical Assistance Program in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.  Employees in this classification apply, interpret and process program specific information, policies, regulations and guidelines in a variety of activities.  This position acts as a telephone triage agent to various 800 hotlines for the HealthChoice and Acute Care Administration in the Division of HealthChoice Customer Relations by providing customer service and resolution of recipient and provider concerns for various Medicaid programs which include but are not limited to HealthChoice, Medicaid Expansion Programs, Maryland Children's Health Program (MCHP),and the Family Planning Program.  All inquiries, complaint calls, enrollee provider problems and issues will be documented in the Provider Recipient Ombudsman Management Information System (PROMIS).  The incumbent's duties also include education of recipients and providers regarding navigation and access of the Medicaid system by reviewing state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures.  The agent is required to triage all medical complaints from recipients and providers in the Medicaid Programs and is required to document the complaint/issue in the PROMIS database.  All complex complaints are referred to the Complaint Resolution Unit within the Division of Outreach and Care Coordination.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  One year of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program.

NOTES:

1.  Additional general clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
