Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Chesapeake and Coastal Service, is currently accepting applications for up to two Coastal Resources - Natural Resources Technicians located in Annapolis, MD. The position(s) will run for up to six months starting in August or September, 2014. The position(s) will provide technical services to the Chesapeake and Coastal Service related to their mission of improving coastal and natural resource management by supporting planning, project implementation and technical evaluation on various conservation, natural resource, planning and restoration issues for decision-making. The internship will focus on two aspects of coastal resource management. One aspect is related to supporting the collection and development of field-based project data. The other aspect will focus on the evaluation of water quality and resource data that will be incorporated into long-range project planning. Field work in various coastal environments may be required as a component of this internship. Additional tasks may include: analyzing and compiling GIS and other data, working with ArcGIS Online Maps, processing project data for communications materials and other coastal resource planning support as necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Completion of sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.                

Experience: None.                

Notes: 1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An education in biology, coastal resources, geography or the environmental or natural sciences is preferred but not required.
