Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of BUILDING SECURITY OFFICER II.

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to ensure a safe and secure environment for State employees and the general public.  A Building Security Officer II is the full performance level of work responsible for protecting  the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on State grounds.  Employees in this classification do not have supervisory responsibility.

Employees receive general supervision from a Police Officer or other designated supervisor.  Employees may be required to work a rotating shift and are subject to call in duty.

POSITION DUTIES

The main duties of this position will be to patrol the building and grounds; assist police officers in building evacuations and other emergencies; check employee and visitor identification; monitor personnel and visitors entering and exiting the building; examine packages upon entering and exiting the building; prevent pilferage; enforce parking policies; submit reports; and other related duties as assigned.  

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Ability to read and write

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in building security work

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire a telephone service at their place of residence.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BENEFITS

Due to the contractual nature of the position, the selected candidate will be paid only for hours worked. This position has no state-paid benefits (i.e. sick leave, annual leave, personal leave, holidays, health insurance, etc.).

The person filling this position may purchase healthcare insurance at the state’s group rate.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
