Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Interview prospective applicants using a standardized investigative interview questionnaire and in accordance with established Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services procedure.
Review documents to determine authenticity.
Complete comprehensive background investigations including criminal record checks; employment checks; credit checks; other reference checks; verification of education and military history.
Use computerized systems for the purpose of background investigations including CJIS, NCIC, Meters, MVA, court system files; Rissnet, Gangnet and S-Gate.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the selective qualification to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your applications regarding the following qualification:
Candidates must possess six (6) months of experience conducting comprehensive background investigations.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following:
Experience in conducting investigations & preparing detailed reports;
Knowledge of law enforcement employment practices;
Outstanding oral and written communications skills;
Self-motivated individual, intent on producing high quality reports;
Ability to work as a team to fulfill the mission of the Hiring Unit.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
