Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Office Secretary II is work providing secretarial support to an official, administrator or administrative staff.  The purpose of this position is to provide both clerical and accurate data entry support for the Laboratory Licensing Unit.  These duties help to carry out state licensing and federal certification activities for clinical laboratories, tissue banks, and enrollees in the Maryland State Cytology Proficiency Testing Program.  These activities include reviewing approximately 2,500 licensing applications for completeness, preparing and distributing invoices, and entering and updating demographic information in appropriate computer program databases.  This position is also required to assist in the processing of changes of contacts, ownerships and addresses for the labs and answering phone inquiries related to the status of a lab permit.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  Two years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

NOTES:

1.  Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or work processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
