Main Purpose of Job

This is a contractual position responsible for coordinating public relations projects and the flow of information regarding the Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge Grant (RTT-ELC) reform initiative for the Division of Early Childhood Development (DECD) to local school systems, child care providers, advocacy community, and to coordinate the preparation and distribution of various informational, promotional and educational publications supporting the Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge Grant.

POSITION DUTIES

Coordinates the development and distribution of informational, promotional and educational resource publications and materials regarding the Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge reform impacting early care education and school readiness; consults with DECD staff for ideas, content, and layout; develops narrative; recommends design, layout and prepares final draft documents for renewal and approval; develops plan for layout, design, reproduction and distribution; publishes the “Partners” newsletter according to an established schedule to keep child care providers informed of new trends in early education, child care, notification of recalls changes in policy and regulation, health and other tips for in and out of home care; coordinates, attends and participates in various meetings; represents DECD on the MSDE internal marketing committee and other state committees and workgroups.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Education, English, Journalism, Communications Marketing, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional work experience in providing public information, marketing, or outreach activities. This experience in an education setting or promoting instructional programs is preferred.

NOTE: Two additional years of experience directly related to the position option may be substituted for the required Master’s Degree.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of public information concepts, communication, and marketing principles; knowledge of child care education, and school reform initiatives regarding Early Childhood Development; skill in developing written, oral and public communications using a variety of computer software; skill in researching information and constructing presentations in a clear and concise format; ability to write quickly, effectively, and accurately in a variety of writing styles; ability to establish harmonious and productive  relationships with the media and publishers; ability to organize multiple tasks and events; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
