Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for retrieving institutional mail from the United States Postal Service and inspecting all incoming mail to ensure that contraband doesn't enter the institution through the mail and distribute mail to proper mailboxes.
POSITION DUTIES
Retrieve the Institutional mail from the United States Postal Service;
Sort and inspect mail for contraband on a daily basis;
Process legal mail, regular mail, magazines and outgoing mail;
Write cell location on the inmate’s mail by using a computer or roster to look up inmate cell location;
may lift 50 pounds or more
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.
Notes:
1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.
3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
