Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as a Customer Service Representative for the Family Investment Administration within the Cecil County Department of Social Services.  The Customer Service Representative is critical to the agency's mission, and provides coverage for the daily front-line services (front desk, telephone, etc.) for customers seeking economic assistance.

POSITION DUTIES

Mail Processing: Date stamp, clear and distribute and/or scan mail to workers.  Enter mail into verification system.

Telephone Coverage: Answers in-coming telephone calls from the public.  Provides information to general questions.  Utilizes CARES system to answer specific customer inquiries.

Reception Coverage: Greets agency's in-coming customers at Reception Desk.  Enters data in electronic logbook to record customer visits.  Performs necessary system clearances, Refers customers to all appropriate agency or external human service providers.  Informs staff of arrival of scheduled appointments or guests.  Communicates with agency staff members to respond to customer requests or needs.  Accepts customer mail delivered in person and complete customer receipt.

SAIL Visitor Registration: Enters customer visitation status into the SAIL interface as instructed by DHR.

Provides coverage to all components of Customer Service Unit as needed.  Participates as requested in Strategic Planning or CQI meetings/groups.  Reads and responds to business communication (i.e. email) timely. Participates when called upon to support Emergency Support Function #6 as outlined in State of Maryland Emergency Operations Plan in order to safeguard the citizens of the State of Maryland during Emergency Events by responding in a timely manner to a shelter as designated by the Director and/or Emergency Operations Manager.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1.  Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be willing to work in Cecil County.  This office is approximately 55 miles north of Baltimore off of Interstate 95, and is the last exit before the MD/DE line.
