POSITION DUTIES

This position will report to the Assistant Manager within Compliance Programs of the Compliance Division. The incumbent will provide secretarial support to the managers of the Tax Investigation Unit, Business Nexus Unit, and the Individual Nexus Unit; helping to ensure the best possible service to taxpayers and co-workers. Associated duties include setting up, creating, and typing form letters and templates to be used by the audit staff; proofreading outgoing correspondence for completeness and accuracy; answering telephone calls and directing the caller to the appropriate staff member or taking appropriate messages; and maintaining and requesting supplies for Compliance Programs staff, fax machines, and copiers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

  1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

 Only applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity.  The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Please submit an unofficial copy of your college diploma or transcripts for full consideration of your qualifications if applicable. It is essential that you submit complete and accurate information on your application in order to determine if you meet the qualifications as specified above. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of completing the application.  All information concerning your qualifications must be received by the closing date. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview and typing test demonstrating typing skills of a minimum of 40 words per minute. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.  Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period.  This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
