Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources invites students or recent college graduates to apply for an internship with the Maryland Park Service, Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in all aspects of the operation of a small public garden.
The horticultural intern will work closely with the garden's Horticulturist in the areas of plant identification (invasive species) planting, irrigation, mulching, corrective pruning, set up for special events and garden gift shop duties.
The Tawes Garden has a vital role in supporting the Department of Natural Resources as it preserves, protects, enhances and restores Maryland's natural resources for the wise use and enjoyment of all citizens. As a unit of the Maryland Park Service the Tawes Garden's mission is to promote, educate and encourage the conservation and appreciation of native and cultivated gardening for the benefit of all. This is an excellent position for those pursuing a career in the horticultural field. This is an unpaid position, for credit only.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Horticultural training or experience in horticultural practices is a must.
- Applicants must be able to work at least 16-20 hours a week for at least threw consecutive months.
